Geographic South Pole - 90 Degrees South

Each January 1st the actual South Pole mark changes due to glacial shifting (about 30' per year). Also, each year a new (and unique) marker is designed, crafted (typically out of brass) and erected at the newly surveyed point.

This year's 2004 marker we must say is on of finest designs we've seen yet. Showing both what some consider as "endless" night and day, the top half shows the prominent Southern Cross constellation with the night sky, the bottom half reveals the bright daylight with each "sunray" representing one winter-over.
