Summary: Voyaging deep into the Southern Ocean, this unique journey takes you south to the Antarctic Circle, entering a realm where few have ever ventured. Attempting to travel to a latitude of 66° 33’ south, you find yourself surrounded by the most sublime scenery and incredible wildlife imaginable, joining your fellow explorers to gaze out across landscapes that few eyes have ever seen. To enrich your experience, the Fram’s team of expedition staff and lecturers will offer presentations on the history, biology, and geology of Antarctica along the way. Come ashore with your expedition team for a close-up look at penguin colonies, modern research facilities and historic sites. Marvel at the mountainous scenery and icebergs floating by from the comfort of the ship’s unique Passenger Bridge.

Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Buenos Aires, Argentina / Ushuaia, Argentina
The Ushuaia-bound flight leaves Buenos Aires in the morning. Upon arrival transfer to the pier which includes an orientation tour of Ushuaia and possibly time to explore on your own. The voyage departs from the Island of Tierra del Fuego in the afternoon.

Days 2 - 3: Drake Passage
Named after Sir Francis Drake, the Drake Passage is one of the world’s great seaways, connecting the waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Infamous and legendary, it is steeped in the history and lore of exploration and discovery. As your vessel comfortably negotiates its way south, there will be opportunities to enjoy educational lectures en route.

Days 4 - 12: Antarctica / Circle Crossing
Once you cross the Antarctic Convergence, you will start to feel the air getting crisper and colder. Antarctic penguins will hunt and play around you and icebergs are an ever present feature of the landscape. Dedicated to scientific research and with no permanent inhabitants, Antarctica is home to millions of penguins and its seas provide sustenance to thousands of whales.

Simple words can do little to convey the feeling of being here, looking out upon the vast expanse of the great White Continent. The ice, wind and weather dictate life in Antarctica, as well as your route. Every voyage is unique and your experienced crew will endeavor to make each one an experience of a lifetime. The final choice of landings will be made in the course of the voyage.

The Antarctic Circle is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. It lies at latitude 66° 33? 39? south of the equator. Along the Antarctic Circle there is one day each year during which the sun does not set, about December 22 (the summer solstice [first day of summer] in the Southern Hemisphere). Attempt a crossing on this trip of a lifetime and be humbled as one of the select few to have ever had the privilege.

Days 13 - 14: Drake Passage
Leave the White Continent behind with memories and photographs to cherish and set sail once more for the South American mainland.

Day 15: Ushuaia, Argentina / Buenos Aires, Argentina
After a spectacular voyage with countless stories to share, dock at the world’s southernmost town. Transfer to the airport and board a flight to Buenos Aires.

The above itinerary is a guide only, as the exact program depends on weather and ice conditions and the wildlife you encounter. Flexibility is the key to the success of this expedition. ExpeditionTrips is not responsible for itinerary changes.

Travel Insurance:
Although travel insurance is not mandatory to participate in this voyage, ExpeditionTrips strongly recommends at least $200,000 Emergency Medical/Evacuation coverage for Antarctic trips which includes coverage for cancellation, trip disruption, baggage and personal property. ExpeditionTrips can assist you with this.

Camping Option: Approximately $530 (rates will vary with exchange rate)
Depending on weather and land conditions, there will be an opportunity to sign up for camping during the voyage. Gear and all cold-weather needs supplied – except pajamas. Groups of 15 will be accompanied by 2 experienced expedition guides. Due to popular demand, campers are chosen by lottery as there is a set limit as to the number of guests allowed to sleep onshore.

Voyage in cabin grade of your choice on a full board basis; round trip economy class flights between Ushuaia and Buenos Aires; transfers in Ushuaia with orientation tour; free coffee and tea onboard; for Suite guests only - a welcome gift and a selection of drinks with meals on board; shore landings as outlined; professional English speaking Expedition team that gives lectures as well as accompany landings and activities onboard and ashore; wind and water-resistant jacket. Subject to change without notice.

Not Included:
International flights; visa fees; travel insurance; luggage handling; alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks; optional excursions and gratuities; items of a personal nature such as laundry; rubber boots, walking sticks and binoculars can be rented for an additional charge; fuel surcharge may apply.
