Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Ushuaia, Argentina
Arrive in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. Make your way to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 2: Ushuaia, Argentina
Arrive at the ship in the afternoon and be greeted by the Expedition Team and ship's officers at a safety and orientation briefing followed by the Captain's welcome dinner. After dinner, relax and take in the mountainous scenery on an early evening sail down the Beagle Channel past penguin, cormorant, and sea lion colonies.

Days 3 - 4: At Sea
At sea, in the westerlies the ship is followed by several species of albatrosses, storm petrels, shearwaters and diving petrels. Observe them from the bridge or decks.

Days 5 - 6: Falkland Islands
The plan is to visit both West and East Falklands. Experience the wildlife of the East Falklands from Stanley including sea lions and Pealeís and Commersonís dolphins in the harbor or bird life in nearby Gypsy Cove. In the western part, keep an eye out for magellanic and gentoo penguins, as well as encounter with water fowl and night herons. In addition, on Saunders we will be able to observe rockhopper, macaroni and king penguins, black-browed albatrosses and king cormorants.

Days 7 - 8: At Sea
At sea, on the way to South Georgia you will cross the Antarctic Convergence. Entering Antarctic waters, the temperature will drop as much as 18įF within only a few hours. Near the Convergence we will see a multitude of southern seabirds near the ship; several species of albatrosses, shearwaters, petrels, prions and skuas.

Days 9 - 12: South Georgia
Magnificent mountain scenery, glaciers, a rugged coastline punctuated with icebergs, a rich historical tapestry, and an astounding array of wildlife are seen while traveling down South Georgiaís leeward coast. In South Georgia, visit the bay of Elsehul, with its active fur seal breeding beach, and then take course to Right Whale Bay, Salisbury Plain, Gold Harbor and Cooper Bay for a wide spectrum of amazing landscapes and wildlife, like elephant seals, king and macaroni penguins. At Fortuna Bay, attempt to follow in the footsteps of the great British Explorer, Ernest Shackleton, on a hike over to Stomness Bay.

Days 13 - 14: At Sea
Heading farther south through the Scotia Sea, watch as icebergs become more and more plentiful. Keep your eye to the sky as the ship will again be followed by a multitude of impressive seabirds.

Days 15 - 17: Antarctic Peninsula / South Shetland Islands
The Expedition Leader and Captain create a flexible itinerary based on weather, ice, and opportunity. The route will take in the most scenic bays and channels of the Peninsula with stops at penguin rookeries, seal haul-outs, bird colonies and whale feeding areas as well as historic and scientific sites. Adelie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins abound, and weddell, crabeater, elephant seals and the predatory leopard seal are often found. Minke and humpback whales are frequent visitors and orca sightings are also common.

The trip may also include the Gerlache Strait including Neko Harbor, Paradise Harbor, Wilhelmina Bay, and Neumayer Channel. Depending on ice, we may also be able to visit beautiful Antarctic Soundís Brown Bluff, Hope Bay, and Paulet Island. Active scientific bases such as Polandís Arctowksi or Ukraineís Vernadskiy and historic bases such as U.K.ís Port Lockroy or Wordie House may also be visited.

Days 18 - 19: Drake Passage
On our way north we are again followed by a great selection of seabirds while crossing the 400-mile long Drake Passage which bears the name of the 16th century English explorer Sir Francis Drake.

Day 20: Ushuaia, Argentina
Arrive in Ushuaia in the morning and disembark. Transfer to the airport for your return journey home.

Read this itinerary as a guide only; the exact route and program varies according to ice and weather conditions - and the wildlife you encounter. Flexibility is the key to the success of this expedition.
