Davis Station

Nationality: Australia

Location: Davis is the most southerly Australian Antarctic Station and is situated 2,250 nautical miles south-south-west of Perth, at 68 ° 35' South, 77 ° 58' East, on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elizabeth Land. Davis is a key location in the network of Australian Antarctic research stations and supports the largest population of scientists during the summer season.

Davis Station

History: Davis station opened in January 1957.  Located on the edge of the Vestfold Hills, Davis is named for Captain John King Davis (1884-1967), master of ships used on expeditions led by Shackleton and Mawson.  During its first years, Davis accommodated very small wintering parties, in some cases just 4-5 men stayed through the long polar night.
