The Terra Nova was Captain Scott’s ship during his attempt to be the first to the South Pole. He was beaten there by Roald Amundsen by a matter of weeks. After travelling 1600 miles he and his team perished just 11 miles from food and shelter.
Herbert Ponting was on the ill-fated Scott expedition of 1911. His work there is seen by many as his best.
